Epic Energy
I was just doodling some storyboards of a barbarian fighting his way through a temple one day and, after digging it up about 5 years later, thought it would make a cool animated commercial.  Once I had the story and product fleshed out, I decided it had to look like a moving comic book.  I got Chad Baptiste to illustrate the boards and Frank Dellafemina is currently designing the main character.  Joseph Bernados also contributed to the storyboard roughs.

Here’s a project I specifically designed to do in Flash one day. It stars Deringer- the gun freak, Muhammad- the powerhouse and Kao Pi (Cow Pie)- the ninja. The characters are pretty much male counterpart rip-offs of the Powerpuff Girls. In fact, I parody them in one episode…The Mightymuff Dolls. Originally, all the episodes were going to be a story/game combo but I’ll probably just drop the games since, ya know, programming is a beeyotch.  The intro animatic needs to be timed out a little tighter and I’ll probably add a bit more action but it’s kinda fun to watch.

This was part of a group of ideas I was developing for my Masters Thesis. It was joined by Kreep’s Night Out, The Old Sap and Shutterbird. It’s about an old, blind Georgia man teaching his Grandson how to play the banjo…with little success.  Fortunately for the youngin’, some chipmunks step in and take over. Since this one deals with music, it would be fun figuring out how to portray the critters accurately playing the banjo. If I ever get to it, I’ll probably produce this one in 3D with all hand painted textures in a Tia Crater style.

This is a project I got weary with fast and will probably never finish.  The main character, Kreep, has way too much confidence and his attitude is contagious (as you can see in the animatic).  The club is full of cheesy goodness: chrome lights, bubble tubes and all kinds of reflective surfaces. I love how the characters look like Muppets made out of silk! I had a blast modeling, texturing, rigging and testing everything but got bored when it came time to animate the shots.  As a traditional animator, I find there is little challenge animating in 3D so I tend to lose interest quick. Besides, I have a better design for Kreep now so I’ll probably start over and have others do the production while I just direct. I also have two other, more complex stories starring Kreep, so this one would be a good testing ground for him.

The Science of Magic

The Science of Magic
This is an idea for a painting I came up with ages ago.  Since I’m not really a painter it’s taking me awhile to actually get into doing it. It involves a medieval scientist studying a fairy, trying to figure out how magic works.  He isn’t a bad person but I wanted him to come across as cruel since he’s a lot more interested in finding answers than how he treats his subject.  I might get it done one day…maybe for a faculty show.
